May,  2013

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This will be the last month the students will borrow a book from our school Library.  The week of May 20th will be our last official gathering in the Library.  The following week  the classes will hand in all books.  Didn’t the  school year go very quickly?

This month of May we are showcasing Historical Fiction Books for the older students.  This is probably my favorite Literary genre.   The stories are based on facts, events,or personages of history.  For example, The Red Badge of Courage, Beetovan Lives Upstairs, Reb and the Red Coats are all Historical Fiction.  I hope you will see one of these pieces of Literary Art in your child’s school bag this month.

For the little ones, we are featuring Arnold Lobel’ s work.  He wrote many of the dearly loved books for children.  Some of our students have read everyone of  his books especially the Frog and Toad Series.  My favorite Lobel book is, Ming Lo Moves the Mountain.  It’s silly but very entertaining.

We made $15.00 on the Used Book Sale and we had less work finding a home for these  well used books.  Thank you!

Sincerely,

Bernadette Dougherty
