While the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Schools announced the winners back in June, the inaugural AoP Tech Influencer and Ambassador Recognition Awards ceremony actually took place Friday morning, September 27, at St. Helena Church (The Empress Room) in Blue Bell. GSC’s principal (seated far left in the group picture) is one of 15 elementary and secondary “EdTech Influencers” recognized for creating and encouraging an “innovative learning environment” at their respective schools. To show their appreciation to Sister Helen Thomas for her collaborative work with them – including sharing ideas and providing resources – the GSC faculty presented her with a Fall flower arrangement on Monday, September 30.
For more information about the awards, go to the AoP Tech Website. It has been a busy start to the 2019-2020 school year at GSC. Here is some photo evidence from the first two weeks of our 10th year. One stormy night, thunder booms, making a small girl cry in fear. To comfort her, the villagers tell her the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who falls in love with Daniel Beauxhomme (“beautiful man”), a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. “Once On This Island” is a story of life, pain, love, grief, faith, and hope. It is a musical with a Caribbean-flavored score and a story inspired by such works as “Romeo and Juliet,” “The Little Mermaid,” and the tropical-themed 1985 novel by Rosa Guy titled, “My Love, My Love.” The “JR.” version of this musical was staged by GSC Theater in October, 2014. This time around, the 14 students in the cast – including two recent Good Shepherd Catholic School graduates – will be performing the full show in the round in the school auditorium. They attended a one-week theater camp at the school in late August that was run by Mark Urmson, GSC’s music and art teacher and theater director, and they have been rehearsing on a regular basis for the past month. There are two evening performances on Friday and Saturday, September 20-21, at 7:00, and a matinée Saturday at 3:00 p.m. All shows will feature live music. Tickets to all performances are $10 each, available at the door or by emailing [email protected]. Video Previews:
The Good Shepherd Home and School Association is looking for parents and other adults – with all required clearances – to volunteer to help out during GSC's lunch periods. Please go to the LUNCH PROGRAM page for more information and to access Sign Up Genius! Thank you for your consideration and time!
